American Heart Association Recognizes RUHS for Commitment to Exceptional Stroke, Diabetes Care

MORENO VALLEY, CA (Aug 4, 2026) – For the 13th consecutive year, Riverside University Health System – Medical Center (RUHS - MC) in Moreno Valley has received awards from the American Heart Association for its treatment of stroke.

The Medical Center received the Get With The Guidelines - Stroke Gold Plus quality achievement award for ensuring stroke patients receive the most appropriate treatment according to nationally recognized, research-based guidelines. The Medical Center first received gold status in 2014.

RUHS also received the Association’s Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite and Target: Type 2 Diabetes™ awards for quickly treating stroke patients with medication to break up blood clots and for providing the most up-to-date care for stroke patients who have Type 2 diabetes, respectively.

Stroke is the No. 4 cause of death and a leading cause of disability in the United States, according to the American Heart Association’s 2026 Heart Disease and Stroke Statistics Report. A stroke occurs when a blood vessel supplying the brain is blocked by a clot or ruptures, preventing blood and oxygen from reaching brain tissue. Detecting and treating a stroke early are key to improving survival, minimizing disability and supporting faster recovery.

Get With The Guidelines - Stroke is an in-hospital program designed to improve stroke care in hospitals nationwide through consistent adherence to guidelines and alignment with the latest evidence-based research.

Each year, participating hospitals earn the award by demonstrating their commitment to providing high-quality stroke care. In addition to following clinical treatment guidelines, Get With The Guidelines participants provide education to help patients manage their recovery and ongoing health at home.
