The Office of Vital Records holds birth and death certificates for births and deaths that occurred in Riverside County for this year and last year only.

To obtain certified copies of birth or death records for 2020 or earlier, please contact the County of Riverside Assessor-County Clerk-Recorder at (951) 955-6200 or visit their website

Birth Certificates by Mail

To request a certified copy of a birth certificate by mail, you will need to provide the following information:

  • Child’s full name as listed on the birth certificate
  • Child’s date of birth
  • Child’s place of birth
  • The mother’s full maiden name
  • Name and address where we are to forward the certified copies

If requesting a Certified Copy, you will have to sign the sworn statement in the presence of a licensed Notary Public.

Birth Certificate Fees - $32.00 per copy.

Death Certificates by Mail

  • Mortuary or cremation society that handled the services
  • Name and address where we are to forward the certified copies

Death Certificate Fees - $24.00 per copy. 

California Health and Safety Code §103650 states a fee must be collected before a search is made whether or not the record is found.

We accept personal checks and money orders, with the following restrictions:

  1. No third-party checks are accepted.
  2. If writing a personal check, it must be pre-printed with the check holder's information.
  3. Check or money order is to be made payable to: County of Riverside.
  4. Please do not send cash when ordering by mail

Still Birth/Fetal Death Certificate by Mail

To request a certified copy of a still birth or fetal death certificate by mail, you will need to provide the following information:

  • Decedent’s full nameDate of death
  • Place of death
  • Mortuary or cremation society that handled the services

Only the mother or father is eligible to request a certified Certificate of Still Birth

If requesting a Certified Copy, you will have to sign the sworn statement in the presence of a licensed Notary Public.

Fees – Still Birth $20.00; Fetal Death $21.00
