Medical Center's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Location: 3rd Floor adjacent to Labor and Delivery unit.

Our 32-bed, Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit provides the backdrop to the high-touch, high-tech, high-quality care delivering to sick babies from 23 weeks gestational age and up. We have a dedicated neonatologist or neonatal nurse practitioner in-house 24/7. With only a door to separate us from the Labor and Delivery unit and operating rooms, our Advanced Response and Resuscitation Team is able to intervene quickly during complicated births. We value our active, collegial, and timely collaboration between physicians and front-line health care providers. As an academic medical center, our NICU team contributes to research and learning through participation in multi-center collaboratives, frequent drills with high-fidelity simulation equipment on the unit, and staff-led counsels. Ours is a culture that encourages questions, applauds teamwork, values learning and believes the family is the center of the plan for all the care we provide.

RUHS-Medical Center is home to an active and growing high-risk maternal fetal medicine practice. An attending obstetrician is in-house 24/7. Apart from what we do within our own department, the NICU team meets routinely with our Obstetric partners for case reviews, drills, and other quality improvement projects. The hospital has an organizational plan to create structural and service line improvements to continue to grow our Women’s and Children’s services that are already in progress.

Our Team

Our neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners and specialty-trained nurses all work together to provide the highest level of care possible for your baby. All our neonatologists are associated with Loma Linda University Medical Center- Children’s Hospital NICU which is a Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in our region. We have a dedicated neonatologist or neonatal nurse practitioner in-house 24/7. With only a door to separate us from the Labor and Delivery unit and operating rooms, our Advanced Response and Resuscitation Team can intervene quickly during complicated births. We value our active, collegial, and timely collaboration between physicians and front-line health care providers.

In 2023 the American Heart Association presented us with the Silver Resuscitation Award in “Get With The Guidelines”.

In the unexpected event that your child needs care in our NICU, you can be assured that you are in good hands. Amongst our 32 bed NICU, we treat infants with complex conditions and extreme prematurity with the utmost care. We have a strong commitment to neuroprotective care for not only our extremely low birth weight infants but to all our other patients as well. We care for infants born as early as 23 weeks gestation and continue to utmost care for them throughout their entire journey here with us.

NAS (Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome)

Our NICU has an extensive multidisciplinary team including respiratory care specialists, pediatric nutritionist, palliative care, social workers, case managers and a full range of rehab services including physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists for our infants.

Also on site is our High Risk follow-up clinics to continue the care needed for your baby after your baby has left our NICU.
