The Riverside University Health System-Behavioral Health (RUHS-BH) Substance Use Program’s Perinatal Services strive to provide accessible, high quality and innovative substance use treatment services for pregnant and parenting women across Riverside County. Through a partnership with countywide clinics and contracted providers; the RUHS-BH Substance Use Program is able to offer an array of MAT approved perinatal residential and outpatient substance use services through the RUHS Medical Center, the CARES line, MOMS Perinatal, and linkage to HeRCARe. These programs support pregnant and parenting women with substance rehabilitation services and other needs such as transportation and emergency housing (as determined by need).

Program Information

RUHS Medical Center: Pregnant persons have 24-hour immediate linkage to MAT approved substance use services through the RUHS Medical Center and Emergency Room. While becoming stable through labor and delivery, perinatal navigators will work on individual client needs and determine the appropriate levels of care to initiate substance use rehabilitative services. Available substance use programs include access to MAT approved detoxification, residential and outpatient services; all with a perinatal focus. Clients will also receive continuous case management to ensure their needs are met throughout their journey to sobriety. The provided programs will also link clients to Dr. Bryan Oshiro, RUHS’s Maternal Fetal Medicine Physician.

CARES: CARES offers 24/7 support and referral assistance to MAT approved substance use rehabilitation programs offered by Riverside County clinics and contracted providers. Specifically, CARES is able to connect pregnant and parenting persons to programs designed to meet the special needs of women. The provided substance use programs can assist women with transportation and emergency housing (as determined by need). In addition, clients who have co-occurring mental health disorders, in addition to their substance use, are allowed to take their medications as needed to stabilize their mental health. MOMS Perinatal: The MOMS Perinatal Program is a 16-week intensive day treatment program for pregnant and parenting women substance abusing women. The program will support women with rehabilitative services for substance abuse, transportation and a variety of topics centered around perinatal care and parenting skill development. In addition, special speakers are also used to provide information and referrals to other community programs for women.

HeRCARe: Pregnant and parenting women enrolled in substance use rehabilitation programs can be link to the HeRCARE program provided by the RUHS Medical Center. HeRCARe offers expecting mothers of high-risk pregnancy specialized care and treatment; overseen by board-certified maternal-fetal medicine providers.
