Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996 mandated significant changes in the legal and regulatory environments governing the provisions of health benefits, the delivery and payment of health care services, and the security and confidentiality of Protected Health Information (PHI).
PHI is defined as individually identifiable demographic information that relates to an individual’s past, present or future physical or mental health or condition. The Riverside County Department of Mental Health is committed to the protection of client information at all times.
