About Us

RUHS Medical Center is a safety net hospital and has a strong commitment to the underserved populations of Riverside County. In 2021, RUHS received Level 1 ACS Trauma Certification and are a regional Pediatric Trauma Center. It is one of the busiest trauma centers in the area. In addition, we are now an Advanced Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement, Joint Commission Center of Excellence effective November 2021 and recently became a Joint Commission Center of Excellence for Hip Fractures effective September 2022.

The residency program was accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) since 2001. Through the single accreditation process, the program received ACGME Initial Accreditation effective January 2023. In April 2023, the program received Continued Accreditation without Outcomes. Our residency program offers four categorical positions per year (Total 20). Subspecialty exposure during the residency includes rotations in house to include, Total Joints and Reconstruction, Sports Medicine, Hand and Upper Extremity, Trauma, Pediatric Orthopaedics, Shoulder and Elbow, and Spine.

To augment our case load and exposure, we do have out rotations to include: Pediatric Orthopaedics (Children's Hospital of Orange County), Total Joints and Foot/Ankle (Kaiser Riverside) and ambulatory rotations at Ambulatory Surgery (Kaiser Outpatient Surgical Center).

Because of the opportunities offered at RUHS, our program has gained immense popularity. Our department and residency program take great pride regarding commitment to excellence, by providing state of the art patient care and house staff education. The clinical experience has been merged with a consummate didactic program that allows for comprehensive education in orthopaedics. Due to our commitment to providing the best care, we have adopted a model of teaching that incorporates tools to assess progressive learning through specific core competencies. This ensures the resident is established as a well-rounded, caring, compassionate physician with an objective to provide good quality care and to learn effective physician-patient interaction.
