CECORC

CECORC was created to enhance and improve the scientific productivity of the clinical departments, their faculty, trainees, and students, at RUHS Medical Center. We started planning the development of the research center in January 2018, and in record time, we secured adequate space, hardware and software, administrative support, and started building a high-quality team of investigators, biostatisticians - data analysists, and research assistants.

Surgeon-in-Chief, RUHS Medical Center

Director, Comparative Effectiveness and Clinical Outcomes Research Center (CECORC)

CECORC was created to enhance and improve the scientific productivity of faculty, trainees, and students, at the clinical departments of RUHS Medical Center. CECORC opened officially in July 2018. Since then, many developments have occurred, which we want to share with you in this 5-year report.

5-Year Report

CECORC initially had a core of individuals primarily serving the research needs of two major areas: surgical and medical specialties. The Medical Center plans, implemented by our visionary institutional leaders, of bringing together other RUHS departments to work in concert with the hospital and clinics to provide comprehensive patient-centered care to our community, were also inclusive of the research mission. Behavioral Health research was embraced by the CECORC team in 2021, expanding our capabilities to do multidisciplinary research. This has also been augmented by collaboration with Public Health and external institutions. The next step will include the development of a robust and comprehensive Population Health Research Program within CECORC, to support the population health efforts of the Medical Center.

As you will see in this report, the CECORC team has worked hard to promote all types of research in our hospital. The productivity has been excellent, and we are very pleased that several clinical departments have taken advantage of this precious resource to advance their research agendas.

We are indebted to the unconditional support of Mr. Zareh Sarrafian, Mrs. Jennifer Cruikshank, and Dr. Arnold Tabuenca during the last 5 years, making CECORC a reality. We are also indebted to the generosity of the Sarver Family, who provided financial support for the creation of the Surgeon-in-Chief Research Fund, allowing us to acquire initial equipment and national datasets. In addition, the Medical Executive Committee and the RUHS Foundation made substantial contributions to the RUHS Research Funds, markedly expanding our research capabilities.

We hope this report enhances the ability of all clinical departments to recruit research-oriented faculty, fellows, and residents to their departments. Now those professionals can also find a home at CECORC.

We are proud of CECORC's accomplishments, but there is a lot more to accomplish in the future. We will continue to focus on our mission to perform high-quality research at RUHS in the years to come

Finally, I want to thank the CECORC investigators and staff for striving for excellence everyday and representing RUHS in many national and international events and the RUHS foundation for providing the support and resources necessary for the creation of this site.
