Curriculum
Year-by-year training structure and rotation schedule
Our clinical schedule is based on 13, four-week blocks per year. First year you will complete your required neurology rotation at both RUHS and Loma Linda University. To fulfill your required primary care blocks you will complete two internal medicine blocks as well as your choice of pediatrics, internal medicine, emergency medicine or family rotations at the RUHS Hospital in Moreno Valley. The other half of the year you will gain expertise in acute psychiatric settings at the Inpatient Treatment Services (ITF) and the Emergency Treatment Services (ETS), both of which are located at the Arlington Campus in Riverside Proper.
Second you will continue to work at the Arlington campus on your ITF (adult and child) and ETS rotations. You will also rotate at the Moreno Valley Campus for both Psychiatry Consult Liaison Service (PCLS) and your forensic rotation. Second year you will also begin outpatient training in our Behavioral Health Older Adult Clinics and outpatient Child Psychiatry Clinics.
Third year you will travel to a myriad of outpatient clinics throughout Riverside County, with the main one being the Resident Education and Continuity Clinic (RECC) at Arlington Campus. In the RECC you will also carry your own case load with medication management and therapy cases and begin individual therapy supervision. Residents get the option of many other RUHS Behavioral Health Clinics and/or FQHCs. You will work in our Behavioral Health Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment, or SAPT clinics, longitudinally as well. You will have the option to rotate through the Loma Linda University SAC Clinic as well as Kaiser Riverside Clinics to gain experience in other health care systems.
Fourth year you have a variety of opportunities to continue your longitudinal outpatient care and therapy in the RECC, as well as other outpatient clinics. You can further education and learn protocols for TMS in our Center for Interventional Psychiatry. You are able to do further rotations at Kaiser Riverside or other affiliate sites. There are opportunities to take on Leadership roles as a Junior Attending or Chief Resident. Each 3rd and 4th year schedule is designed as a collaboration between the resident and Program Director.
