Since 2023, Injury Prevention Services (IPS) in Public Health has received funding from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to assist school districts in the development of a Resilience Initiative through Support and Empowerment Program (RISE)/Violence Prevention (VP).

Program Goals

  • Increase awareness of the importance of resilience and its impact on mental health and overall wellbeing among at-risk youth.
  • Empower young individuals to build resilience by adopting healthy coping strategies to navigate life's challenges.
  • Enhance positive self-talk and introduce confidence-building strategies to promote self-esteem and personal growth.
  • Recognize and understand emotions, leading to better responses in various situations and strengthening their ability to connect with others.
  • Identify personal boundaries and communicate them effectively, fostering respect and understanding in their relationships.

Program Overview

Student Component

  • High Schools – Provide educational support to students focused on developing initiatives that emphasize resilience and healthy coping strategies. The program aims to raise awareness about emotional wellbeing and encourages students to become advocates for mental health and resilience among their peers.
  • Middle Schools - Train a select group of students on each campus to lead and implement a Resilience Empowerment program tailored to their school. This initiative equips youth with the skills necessary to address emotional challenges and promote resilience among their peers. Students will receive critical information on connecting with their emotions and utilizing healthy coping methods.

Staff/Parent Development

  • The following training sessions empower parents and guardians to cultivate healthy relationships with their children by setting appropriate boundaries and promoting digital safety. They address the impact of toxic stress and its potential to lead to trauma, while offering strategies to build resilience in both individuals and families. Families will explore ways to foster a growth mindset, empowering younger generations to thrive in today's world.
