Pediatric Care - Safe and Convenient

Children and COVID-19

While it is possible for children of all ages to become ill with COVID-19, they rarely experience severe illness, and in many cases might not show any symptoms at all.

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), figures released at the height of the pandemic reveal that, among nearly 150,000 cases of COVID-19 in the U.S. between Feb. 12 and April 2, only about 1.7%, were in children. Hospitalization rates for children are also much lower than for adults.

However, children with certain underlying or genetic conditions, particularly those affecting the nervous system or metabolism, could be at higher risk.

Protecting Patients and Their Families

During these challenging times we have adopted the following safety measures and precautions.

Pediatric sick care is now provided in the air-conditioned tent located outside the Medical Surgical Center building so that patients with symptoms that could be COVID minimize the risk of spreading it to others.

Our new clinic space is larger, so physical distancing is now easier. Plus, with our additional capacity we are able to room every patient more quickly. All rooms and public spaces are cleaned and sanitized frequently throughout each day.

Video visits (telehealth) are recommended for those who are sick or have family members who are sick. It’s a safe and convenient way to keep up with regularly scheduled check-ups and ask questions to your physician, while also diminishing risk of COVID-19 exposure.
