RUHS Medical Center

Surgical Service Rotations at RUHS Medical Center

RUHS Medical Center, the sponsoring institution of the General Surgery Residency Program, serves the people of Riverside County. Riverside County is the second largest county by area in the United States. The Medical Center has 439 acute care inpatient beds (44 ICU beds and 318 acute medical surgical beds). There are 23,000 inpatient admissions each year and 9300 surgical procedures are performed here each year. It provides services in all major fields of general surgery and the surgical subspecialties. There are active dedicated services for general surgery, thoracic surgery, vascular surgery, surgical ICU and subspecialty services in urology, plastic surgery, otolaryngology, neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, gynecological surgery and ophthalmology surgery. It is a level 2 trauma center. The majority of the patient population is indigent, with a substantial minority of patients representative of the non-indigent county population. Because of the indigent nature of the patient population, many patients present late in the disease process, and the pathology is often quite advanced. RUHS Medical Center also has ACGME-accredited Family Practice and Anesthesiology Residency Programs as well as an American Osteopathic Association (AOA) accredited Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program
