Anatomy Skills Lab

​​​​On a quarterly basis, residents will attend and participate in a surgical anatomy lab.  These lab experiences allow residents to see first hand the intricate anatomy of some of the most common procedures performed.  Labs are structured around individual resident ability and skill with more advance labs for senior residents.

Anatomy Lab topics / procedures include:

  • Hernia
  • Vascular Approaches​
  • Chest / Thorax​
  • Liver

A basic skills / laparoscopic skill lab is designed for resident self-direct practice 24/7. Technical skills be be taught by faculty and appropriate hospital staff through various forms of simulation.  ​At a minimum, these skills include:

  • Basic Suturing
  • Knot Tying
  • Asepsis Techniques
  • Instrument Identification
  • Tissue Handling, Dissection, and Wound Management
  • Airway Management
  • Chest Tube Insertion​
  • NG tube insertion
  • Foley catheter insertion
  • Central Line Insertion, Arterial Lines
  • Laparotomy Opening and Closure
  • Basic and Advance Laparoscopic Skills​
