p_Farhadian

Parastou Farhadian, M.D, Program Director 

Dr. Farhadian serves as the Residency Program Director.  Dr. Farhadian acts as a liaison between different departments and satellite clinics, and she plays a critical role in the day-to-day operations of the residency program and Family Care Clinic.  She is a graduate of the RCRMC Family Medicine Residency Program, and she currently serves as an instructor for the Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics. Her interests include Women’s Health, Faculty Development, and Ambulatory Care.  Outside of work, Dr. Farhadian enjoys spending time with her family.

Aguilera

Adolfo Aguilera, M.D., Associate Program Director

Dr. Aguilera serves as the Associate Residency Program Director. He has a special interest in Underserved Populations, Sports Medicine, Obstetrics and Inpatient Care. He is also the Clinical Skills Coordinator for first year medical students at the University of California Riverside School of Medicine, as well as an Assistant Clinical Professor​​ at Riverside Community College for the Physician Assistant Program. Dr. Aguilera is a graduate of the University of Illinois School Of Medicine.

N McLaughlin

Nathan McLaughlin, M.D.
Assistant Program Director

Dr. McLaughlin is originally from Northern California. He went to undergrad at St. Mary’s College of Ca in the S.F. Bay area. He attended Medical School in Virginia at VCU School of Medicine. Then, he went to Chicago where he completed his residency training which included duties as Chief Resident. He stayed on as clinical faculty for one year and was voted as FM OB teaching attending of the year. He is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Family Medicine with the UCR SOM and teaches Clinical Skills and Problem Based Learning to M1 and M2 students at UCR SOM. He is especially passionate about teaching and his clinical interests include inpatient medicine and Obstetrical care. Outside of work he and his wife have new daughter born in April, so that pretty much takes up all of his free time.​

Leung

Geoffrey Leung, M.D., Ed.M.
Chair Family Medicine Department

Dr. Leung serves as Chair of the Family Medicine Department.  Dr. Leung is a former residency program director, and his interests include Ambulatory Care, Public Health, Patient Education, and Health Care Policy.  He is passionate about improving care for underserved populations.  Dr. Leung has served on the Committee on Continuing Professional Development for the California Academy of Family Physicians since 2004.  Dr. Leung completed his residency training at Kaiser Orange County and graduated from Baylor College of Medicine.

Faheem Jukaku, M.D., Faculty Member                
Palliative Medicine Director

Dr. Jukaku serves as a Faculty Physician and Advisor. His special interests include Inpatient Medicine, Procedures, Hospice and Palliative Medicine. He serves as a preceptor for the University of California Riverside School of Medicine and volunteers regularly at a free local clinic. Dr. Jukaku completed his residency training in Family Medicine at Riverside County Regional Medical Center.  Prior to that, he completed a one year of preliminary surgery training at Saint John’s Hospital in England.
W Hamade

Wael Hamade, M.D., Faculty Member               
Chair of Geriatric Division

Dr. Hamade serves as a Faculty Physician and Resident Advisor. He enjoys Academic Medicine and mentoring medical students and residents. Dr. Hamade’s interests include Geriatric Medicine, Home Visits, and Nursing Home care. He completed his Family Medicine residency training at Riverside County Regional Medical Center and his Geriatric Fellowship at UCLA. In addition to serving as the Director of Geriatric Clinic, he is also the lead consultant for the Geriatric Trauma Service.  Outside of the hospital, he enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and playing basketball.

​​Andrew Alexander, M.D.,

​Dr. Alexander serves as a faculty physician and an advisor. His medical interests include inpatient medicine, curriculum development and childhood obesity. When not at work, he likes to spend time outdoors with his family and pets. Dr. Alexander did his residency at LA County/USC Medical Center and the University of Texas HSC, Houston. He is a graduate of Keck USC School of Medicine.

​​Ryan Buller, D.O., Faculty Member
Sports Medicine

Dr. Buller serves as a Faculty Physician and Resident Advisor.  He completed most of his education and training in Southern California.  After receiving his BS degree from the University of Southern California he attended Western University for medical school.  He completed his Family Medicine residency training at Riverside University Health Systems.  Dr. Buller did his Sports Medicine Fellowship training at Harbor-UCLA.  He is board certified in Family Medicine and Sports Medicine.  In addition to working with the residency program he is an assistant clinical professor for the UCR School of Medicine, he is the team physician for UCR Athletics, he runs the Sports Medicine practice for UCR Health and is the Associate Director for the UCR Comprehensive Sports Concussion Program.  When away from work, he enjoys spending time with family, watching and playing sports. 

Ackerman

Barbara Ackerman, RN, Ph.D., Faculty Member
Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Ackerman is an experienced Psychologist and Educator.  She is in charge of the Behavioral Medicine experience and curriculum, including coordinating seminars and working with Family Medicine Resident Physicians to provide co-therapy to patients. Her special interests include Behavioral Health Education, Physician Communication, Acculturation Stress, and effective psychological services for low-income and ethnic minority patients.

Paul Lyons, M.D., Faculty Member
Senior Associate Dean of Education, University of California
Riverside School of Medicine

Dr. Lyons serves as a Faculty Member for the RCRMC Family Medicine Residency Program, as well as the Senior Associate Dean of Education for the University of California Riverside School of Medicine.  His areas of interest include Curriculum Planning, Faculty Development and Evaluation, Faculty Recruitment and Appointment, and Student Progress and Promotion. Prior to joining the RCRMC Family Medicine Residency Program and University of California Riverside School of Medicine, Dr. Lyons was a professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at Temple University School of Medicine.  Dr. Lyons received his medical degree from Oho State University.

​Claudia Alejandra Alvarez, D.O., Faculty Member

Dr Claudia Alejandra Alvarez completed her bachelors in Biomedical Sciences at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. Prior to entering medical school, she volunteered as a Spanish medical interpreter in free clinics. She completed her medical school at A.T. Still University School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona. She completed her family medicine residency at Harbor-UCLA medical center working for the county of Los Angeles. She is committed to continue her career as a civil servant and caring for the underserved population.

Tsang

Shunling Tsang, M.D., MPH, Faculty Member
Associate Medical Director for Quality

Dr. Tsang serves as a Faculty Member, Resident Advisor, and as a Lead Physician for the Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) project at RCRMC. Dr. Tsang is a graduate of the RCRMC Family Medicine Residency Program, and her special interests include Public Health, Patient Education, and Community Medicine. When not at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and children, travelling, and experiencing different cuisines.

 

Janis Neuman, M.D., Clinic Preceptor

Dr. Neuman serves as a Clinic Preceptor for the RCRMC Family Medicine Residency Program.  Prior to joining the RCRMC Family Medicine Residency Program, she served as the Medical Director for the Exclusive Care Health Plan, Chief of Medical Services for the Riverside County Department of Public Health, and Residency Program Director for the Kaiser Fontana Family Medicine Residency Program.  When she is not teaching procedures and sharing clinic “pearls,” Dr. Neuman enjoys spending time with her granddaughter.

Doughton

Joel Doughten, M.D., Clinic Preceptor

Dr. Doughten serves as a Clinic Preceptor at the RCRMC Family Care Clinic. In addition to supervising residents for their Nursing Home and Geriatric Clinic experience, Dr. Doughten stays busy managing his own private practice. Dr. Doughten is passionate about teaching, and each week, he participates in the resident didactic lecture series by giving his popular evidence-based board examination preparation presentations.

Louise Huang, M.D., Clinic Preceptor

Dr. Huang serves as a Clinic Preceptor at the RCRMC Family Care Clinic. In addition to teaching residents in the clinic setting, Dr. Huang also assists with supervising the Family Medicine Inpatient Team. Outside of the RCRMC Family Medicine Residency Program, Dr. Huang has her own private practice in Riverside.
