Welcome to the RUHS / UCR Family Medicine Residency Program.
I invite you to consider the community-based Family Medicine Residency Program at Riverside University Health System. Our program was one of the first Family Medicine programs to be accredited in the state of California. We opened our doors to the first class in 1971.
Our program has a 12-12-12 resident complement.
We are a community-based program located in Southern California, 65 miles east of downtown Los Angeles and 85 miles north of San Diego. We work collaboratively with other departments in the hospital to provide high quality and comprehensive primary care.
We are proud of our state-of-the-art 324 bed hospital that provides care to an underserved and a very diverse patient population. The Family Medicine Residency Program provides excellent and diverse clinical experience. Since we are based at a county hospital, our residency program is able to provide training in a scope of practice that is broader and deeper than what is typically found in a university- or community-based hospital. One of the unique characteristics of our residency program is we are utilizing 5 continuity sites of which 4 are federally health qualified centers (FQHC)
We are fortunate to have a core group of committed faculty who collectively contributes their expertise across the breadth of Family Medicine including board certified geriatricians and board certified palliative medicine attendings.
Our residents are involved in many community projects, some of which include: HELP project (healthy eating and lifestyle promotion) with our 5 local high schools; annual STAND DOWN for veterans, and the annual League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) health fair.
Our graduates practice in a variety of settings within and outside of California, ranging from community health centers and small-group practices to HMO-type settings and rural medicine sites.
