Visiting Rotators

Welcome to the Department of Anesthesiology at Riverside University Health System - Medical Center!

Please take time to log in and review the packet of information before you begin your pre-approved rotation.  There are many aspects of anesthesia to learn and we want you to start you off with the basics.  You will find general information about our OR, as well as guidelines for patient care, standards for basic anesthesia monitoring, and an introduction to the preoperative evaluation of our patients.

Rotating residents, Resident Registered Nurse Anesthetists, and medical students will be given a log in and password to allow access to the RUHS Extranet. Please review the information there before your scheduled rotation and bring with you any documents already completed if required.

Medical students who are rotating here in anesthesia are encouraged to learn as many skills and techniques as possible. Medical students have the opportunity to learn how to place IV’s in our Same Day Surgery area, participate in the operating room set up with residents, assist the residents with patient pre-ops, observe and/or participate in the care of trauma patients who come to the OR and take night or weekend call with our residents.  Students are also welcome and encouraged to attend all of our didactic sessions with the residents.  A schedule of our didactic sessions is located in Educational Resources.  Please be sure to maintain good contact with all our attendings and introduce yourself to the OR staff.

All of our visiting rotators are encouraged to ask our faculty, residents and staff any questions them may have and to learn as much as you can.  We hope your enjoy your rotation with us.
