The goal of Crisis Management training is the familiarization with common and not so common anesthetic urgencies and emergencies encountered in the peri-operative area. It is hoped that through repetition, the response to various crisis situations will become ‘second nature’.
Through a combination of lectures, case studies and, simulation scenarios, it is expected that residents will be able to:
- Recognize potential crisis situations
- Diagnose crisis situations as they present
- Manage the crisis situation
- Remain calm and in control of the crisis through conclusion
The curriculum consists of attending supervised and directed resident presentations, as well as hands on simulation scenarios that run congruent with the weekly educational lecture.
Topics will be chosen primarily from ‘Crisis Management In Anesthesiology’ by Gaba, Fish and, Howard.
